Right People, Real Problems: How EOS Helps You Solve What Actually Matters

EOS solves problems, consulting for practice owners

Let’s be honest—running a group practice can feel like juggling cats on fire while blindfolded. It’s messy, it’s chaotic, and half the time you’re not even sure what the actual problem is. Enter EOS, the Entrepreneurial Operating System, which helps you stop guessing and start solving. Specifically, we’re talking about the people in your practice and the issues you keep bumping into (or avoiding). Because when your people and your problems are out of alignment, your whole system suffers.

Why This Matters (a Lot)

Practice owners (you, hi) spend so much time trying to fix surface-level stuff. EOS gets you underneath it all. It helps you figure out if the problem is your team, your systems, or maybe even your leadership style (no shade). And once you know that, you can stop duct-taping things and actually solve them for good.

Quick Breakdown of EOS

Here’s the quick and dirty on EOS: picture a pie with six slices—Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. This convo centers on People and Issues, the dynamic duo that makes or breaks your practice.

Right People, Right Seats

Let’s start with the people. EOS uses the “Right People, Right Seats” concept, which is basically a fancy way of saying: don’t keep someone just because they’re nice or they’ve been around forever. That’s not enough. You need people who align with your practice values and are sitting in the right roles. You start with values alignment—define your core values (clearly!) and assess if each team member actually lives them out. Then you look at seat fit using the GWC method: do they Get it, Want it, and have the Capacity for it? Simple framework, big impact.

Solving the Real Issues

Now, let’s talk problems. With EOS, you use the IDS method—Identify, Discuss, Solve. Most people stop at “this is annoying,” slap on a bandaid, and call it a day. Nope. IDS makes you slow down, dig deep, and solve the real root cause. That’s how things stop being recurring fires and start becoming… well, solved.

People + Issues = Your Ecosystem

Here’s the kicker: you can’t solve issues well if you don’t have the right people, and you can’t support the right people if you’re ignoring the real problems. They’re linked. When both are dialed in, your practice becomes a self-sustaining, growth-ready, emotionally chill(er) ecosystem.

Action Step: Audit Your Team

Want something actionable? Audit your team. Assume you have clear roles and values. Then use a values analysis to rate your team and run everyone through the GWC filter. If you hesitate on any answer, it’s a no. Harsh but helpful.

About the Author

Dr. Tara Vossenkemper is a gently-candid consultant who’s been in the trenches of group practice ownership since 2017. With a hearty blend of depth, irreverence, and a solid dash of humor (or so she hopes), Tara helps practice owners navigate the can-be-messy process of hiring, culture-building, vision generating, people-y issues, and all the other things that keep you up at night. When she’s not consulting, she’s probably wrangling her animals or homeschooling her kids—because why not add more chaos to the mix?
